Forward thinking corporations see the opportunities presented by climate change and are taking action usually presented in their corporate social responsibility (CSR) long-term plans and commitments. These opportunities include improvement through efficiency and alternative energy supply, reduced petroleum dependence and a more reliable energy market. Proactive companies are preparing for the physical effects of climate change, improving industry reputation, access to new markets, lowering insurance costs and preempting restrictive carbon emission legislation. They voluntarily agree to participate in annual reporting of GHG emissions and pledge to reduce carbon footprints. Corporate boards and oversight committees have adopted sustainability development plans and climate change mitigation strategies. These corporations are investing in research and development of green energy technologies and climate friendly industrial processes, as well as developing green products to satisfy environmentally responsible consumers growing in rapid numbers. I celebrate these companies and give them credit for their actions as they are allowing us to live with nature and not against it. I thank you for leading by example. - Encouraged by Katie Southworth and her work on “Corporate Voluntary Action: A Valuable but Incomplete Solution to Climate Change and Energy Security Challenges, Policy and Society”.

Sir David Attenborough

“We can now destroy or we can cherish, the choice is ours. There is no reason to suppose that our stay here will be any more permanent than that of the dinosaur.”

“We’re replacing the wild with the tame. Half of the fertile land on earth is now farmland. 70% of the mass of birds on this planet are domestic birds. The vast majority, chickens. We account for over one-third of the weight of mammals on earth. A further 60% are the animals we raise to eat. The rest, from mice to whales, make up just 4%.”

Naomi Klein

“So we are left with a stark choice: allow climate disruption to change everything about our world, or change pretty much everything about our economy to avoid that fate. But we need to be very clear: because of our decades of collective denial, no gradual, incremental options are now available to us.”

“It is a civilizational wake-up call. A powerful message—spoken in the language of fires, floods, droughts, and extinctions—telling us that we need an entirely new economic model and a new way of sharing this planet.”
